Printing Guide
We provide several different files which should suit a large range of 3D printers.
The quality of your printer and the skill of the user will effect the quality of the finished product, however, we aim to make it as easy as possible for you.
We guarantee our models are printable
Basic Settings
FFF Printers
The models are designed to be printed at 0.1 mm layer height and with a 0.4 mm nozzle unless the description says otherwise. In most cases you should also use a Brim. Large models won't fit within small printers!
Resin Printers
We recommend using 0.05 mm layer heights. Large models won't fit within small printers!
The models may contain "islands", the supported resin models will remove most of the "islands", however with most models it will be necessary to delete the "islands" in your slicer a few times (usually twice but rarely more than four times, although this is affected by your printers pixel resolution). Deleting the islands in your slicer will improve your print success rate and lengthen the lifetime of your vat film.
Files
Each model is supplied in several versions.:
An stl file of the model (for PLA printing)
An stl file with our special support for improved PLA printing
An stl file modified for resin printing
A chitubox file with support added for resin printing (not always provided)
Details on Each of the Files
An stl file of the model (for PLA printing)
An stl file of the model. This file should be suitable for most FFF printers using any material you want, although we have only tested it with PLA.
An stl file with our special support for improved PLA printing
The same model as above with our special support added. This support is designed for 0.4 mm nozzels and 0.1 mm layer heights, it may also work with smaller nozzels and different layer heights. It is still necessary to add support to the model using your slicer program however we find that default support works for us as our special support supports all the tricky areas. The use of our special support should produce a much better PLA print compared to not using it.
We can't guarantee that models with support will work with your printer because we haven't tested them on every printer, however in the most cases (if not all cases) they should work well and we know they work for us!
However if you think you have spotted an error then please let us know so we can fix it for you and everyone else
An stl file modified for resin printing
Generally this is the same model as above but hollowed out to reduce the amount of resin used in the print. Some models are not hollowed out because of their shape or size and therefore they are the same as the standard stl file of the model for PLA printing. This file should be suitable for most resin printers.
A chitubox file with support added for resin printing (not always provided)
We also aim to provide a chitubox file with support added for resin printing. Not all models are supplied with a chitubox file so check the model description before buying. It can be time consuming and difficult to add support to a model for resin printing so this file should save you time and increase your print success rate. If you find that the support we have added doesn't work with your printer then this file should at least provide a good starting point for you.
